More than 225 guests attended Freda Martin's 101st birthday celebration, hosted by Karen and Rick Wooley of Orange, Calif., Martin's youngest daughter and son-in-law.
Guests included Martin's daughters, Wanda Schweer, Doris Grebe, Ella Dee Keith and Shirley Adams, all of Jackson; her sisters, Effie Riehn and Hazel Henson; and most of her 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and friends and neighbors.
Colorful leis, butterfly decorations to go with the theme, "How Time Flies," old-time tunes on the piano as well as a sound system and bingo were all part of the activities.
Flashing lights and the sound of a whistle prepared guests for the arrival of Elvis Presley, impersonated by Jerry Ayers, who, after singing numerous old favorites, dedicated "Love Me Tender" to Martin. He presented a bouquet of red carnations and a signature blue scarf to Martin at the end of his performance.
